Spa FAQs
Following are some of the questions frequently asked by new guests to the spa. You may wish to review these so that you can relax and enjoy your visit. If you have a question that is not addressed below, please feel free to contact us at 304-754-7977 x3118 or by e-mailing sleepycreekspa@thewoods.com.
How far in advance should I make my spa appointments?
While we do our best to accommodate all of our guests, for the best selection of services and appointment times it is best to make your reservations well in advance. If you are traveling to The Woods we suggest making your spa reservations at the same time that you make your lodging reservations. Reservations may be made at the number above.
What is your cancellation policy?
We respectfully ask that you advise us a minimum of 24 hours in advance if you need to cancel an appointment. A 50% fee will be charged for any late cancellation or no-show appointment. If you provide us with an e-mail address we will be happy to send you a reminder in advance of your appointment.
Can I charge my payment?
The Sleepy Creek Spa accepts Mastercard, Visa, Discover, and American Express. If you are staying on property in one of The Woods’ lodgings you may also charge your service to your room. Members who have set up a charge account may charge their services to that account.
Can I purchase the products that are used in my service?
In most cases, yes. The Spa retail area carries many of the products used during facials and salon services. Ask your therapist if there was a particular product that you liked. She/he will be happy to assist you.
How should I tip my spa therapist?
If you are pleased with your service an 18-20% gratuity is customary (tips may be charged if that is your preference).
What time should I arrive for my appointment?
If you are having multiple services, please arrive a few minutes early so that you have time to check in, put your belongings away, change into your spa robe, and advise us of any health issues before your service.
If I’m coming with a group can we start & end our services at the same time?
We’ll make every effort to try to accommodate multiple services at the same time for larger bookings.
What happens if I am late?
We schedule appointments on the ½ hour and hour. If you should arrive late we will have to abbreviate your service so that clients scheduled after you are not inconvenienced. The full price of your service will apply.
May I upgrade my service upon arrival?
In most cases, yes. If you wish to have a stone massage we’ll need to know ahead of time so that we can warm the equipment.
What should I bring with me?
For those having multiple services, we will provide you with a warm robe to wear. If you are getting a pedicure you may want to bring open toed shoes to wear when you leave. We will provide a locker for your use during your visit. Please keep any valuables with you at all times.
What should I wear during my massage?
During your service, you will be professionally draped at all times. While you need not wear anything during your service some of our clients prefer to wear undergarments. Please feel free to do what makes you feel the most comfortable and relaxed so that you may enjoy your massage.
What should I wear into the sauna/steam room?
Our women’s locker room features a sauna and the men’s locker room features a steam room. Since these areas are not co-ed you may choose to wear only a towel or your swimsuit when using them. Again, choose the level of clothing that makes you comfortable.
I have a gap between my services. What is there to do while I wait?
Please feel free to enjoy a cup of tea in our relaxation room where you can read a magazine by the fire or browse our retail area while you await your next service.
Please silence and refrain from using your cell phone while in the relaxation room (you may use these in the retail area). Kindles and other silent reading devices may be used in the relaxation room.
Is the use of the pools, whirlpools, fitness room, and other amenities included in the cost of my spa service?
Guests at the Spa may use the Whirlpool, Sauna, Steam Room & Locker Rooms before or after their treatments.
Is there some place to eat before or after my service?
Many of our spa guests enjoy having a meal at the Clubhouse Grille conveniently located 1.5 miles from the Sleepy Creek Spa. The Grille has a beautiful view overlooking the 18th hole of the Mountain View Golf Course.
May I bring my children with me?
For the relaxation and enjoyment of our all of our guests, children are only permitted at the Spa if they are receiving a service. We request that a parent or guardian accompany all children under the age of 16. A Parent/Guardian must accompany children receiving Princess Treatments (ages 7-12). Children under the age of 18 will be scheduled with a same-sex aesthetician unless accompanied by a parent or guardian.
May I request a male or female therapist?
Please let us know if you have a preference for a male or female therapist. We will do our best to honor your choice. All of our therapists are licensed professionals and will do everything in their power to make you feel comfortable during your spa services.
Should I shave before my appointment?
We recommend allowing several hours between shaving and receiving any service that involves an exfoliation (body services, scrubs, gentleman’s facial, pedicure) to decrease the risk of skin irritation or discomfort.
If I’m pregnant, what spa services may I receive?
Expectant guests may receive any nail, hair, or facial service. Once you are safely into your second trimester, pregnant guests may receive a prenatal massage. We recommend that you check with your physician before booking any Spa services. We will not perform wraps, hot stone services, or deep tissue work on expectant clients, nor should these clients use the sauna or whirlpool.
What if I have special medical conditions?
We recommend that you check with your physician before visiting the Spa. Please notify the Spa of any special needs or health concerns when you book your services. Be sure to let us know if you have any sensitivities or allergies, if you are pregnant or nursing, and if you are taking any medications. If we believe that the service you are scheduled for is unsafe based on any information given, we may recommend canceling the service, booking another service or modifying the service to make it safe for you. As we are most concerned about your safety and comfort, the Spa reserves the right to refuse service to any guest at any time.
Anything else?
Please notify us of any preferences regarding water temperature, music selection/volume, or massage pressure during your Spa experience. Some services require the removal of makeup (e.g. facials). If you would like to re-apply makeup before leaving we ask that you do so in the locker room so that we may prepare the treatment room for the next client. Professional makeup application is also available. Ask your therapist for details.
